This month’s Mixpak chart is chosen by Koyote, who released Midsummer Tales on Mixpak last year and will be releasing a brand new EP in the near future. He’s been living in Brazil for the last few months, so his selection is pretty different from the usual and also features an exclusive upload of his own:
1. Jorge Ben Jor – Chove Chuva
I’ve been living in Brazil since December and to tell the truth, I haven’t really listened to a lot of club music since then, so much to discover over here. Right now I’m really into MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) from the 60’s and 70’s and this is my anthem of the moment. I love the modulations of Jorge Ben’s voice and ‘Chove Chuva’, which literally means ‘it rained, it’s raining’, is exactly what I live everyday in the Brazilian tropical summer.
2. Caetano Veloso – Triste Bahia
I wouldn’t know this album without the help of one of my neighbours, here in Sao Paulo. One day, I was able to catch his wifi connexion and go through his entire iTunes library, discovering this masterpiece of tropicalism.
3. Burial – Ashtray Wasp
That’s the only electronic music EP I’ve bought since I’m in South America. I couldn’t miss a Burial record, though IMHO this record is a little less solid that his previous releases.
4. Floating Points – Obtuse
One of my favourite producers of the moment. ‘Obtuse’ could be how a Chicago House rhythm track would sound nowadays, terrific drum patterns and dynamics engineering plus some aphex twinesque ambient chords at the end, amazing !
5. Cobra Krames – That Bump (DJ Koyote Remix)
I’ve just finished this remix for Big Dope P’s label Moveltraxx, not even mastered yet but I uploaded it just for you.
6. Todd Edwards – Shall Go
Another producer I couldn’t miss a release. This record blew me away. Besides Todd’s classic cut-up-and-pitched-voices tracks, there’s ‘Shall Go’, a Gospel House track with a VERY posititve vibe.
7. Todd Edwards – This Generation
I couldn’t resist charting another track, that’s how good this record is. ‘This Generation’ is Todd Edwards’ take on Tribal House, an shameful subgenre of House Music, but not in Todd’s hands.
8. Omar S – Income Tax Refund Song
Omar S’ next release is excellent as usual, ‘Income tax Refund Song’ is a true hypnotic House track with a Robert Hood feel and syncopated sharped hats.
9. Levon Vincent – Pivotal Moments In Life
Levon Vincent has been delivering very solid eps in the last couple of years, making him difficult to touch in the House Music genre. This track is like Omar S meets Drexciya, a deep melancholic vibe but full of hope in the same time.
10. Out One – Mystery Makes Me Horny
The first release on Supergenius Records, the label I’m setting up, and it will be out soon. It’s a raw, Armani-like ghetto house track, but with Out One’s own approach and original samples.
