Objekt – Tinderbox 1 EP

Word goes around town that the Berliner producer TJ Hertz is the man behind “Tinderbox”, the track that came out a week ago on Boomkat (Hardwax link here). Now releasing under his new moniker Objekt, he made a tremendous entrance with his Objekt 1 EP, a release that holds “Tinderbox” and “The Goose That Got Away” on the other side. Although both tunes are really good, “Tinderbox” completely bowled me over at first listen. Heavy but redeemed, a really clever build and most importantly, an incredibly nice listen. A “stripped down old school dubstep cut” as Hardwax describes it. One of my tracks of the year already, don’t sleep on this!

Lean and hungry dubstep minimalism from the hugely promising Objekt label. We know b*b-all about the artists but in true, facelessly underground style, the music does all the talking. For the forward steppers ‘The Goose That Got Away’ jams on a warped 808 rhythm and ascending chords vibe, sounding something like Pearson Sound sparring with Jam City. Next, ‘Tinderbox’ turns out a more menacing vibe, building a forcefield of 808 bass to protect crunked-out triplet rolls and a rush of darkside adrenaline synths tapping into a deep reserve of UK rave essence. – Boomkat.
