Terry G comes across as a mix of Busta Ryhmes, ODB and Kemikal. His songs are for the most part catchy, throwaway tracks that always get stuck in your head. He effectively brought the term swagger into Nigerian slang then turned it on his head by coining the phrase ‘Ginger my Swaggah’.
My favourite Terry G story was when my brother attended a wedding in Lagos. Wedding receptions in Lagos tend to last 14 hours and over 3000 people attend (you pop in for 45 mins or so). Terry G was the special guest performing at the wedding and when he hit the stage all the waiters and waitresses started to do alanta (a dance move which Terry made popular), the guests remained seated. He is the Lil B of Nigeria.
P.S. Even a diss record aimed at him is one of the biggest songs in Nigeria at the moment.
