Joyce Muniz has a knack for making percussive music that resonates in the weird crevasses of the human mind, and her latest offering is no exception. Imagine a smoke and lazer-filled drum circle where everyone’s chugging cough syrup and you’re beginning to get the idea. You can also preview the Homework remix as part of Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team’s latest “rammed to the brim with exclusives” mix.

Tom Waist of Homework provides visuals that fall somewhere in between ” Wizard of Oz” and The “Holy Mountain“. Out on Exploited Records on November 12th, the package comes with some smooth reworks from Shir Khan, Pol_On, Homework and J.Phlip.

This piece of  Southern stank has been getting serious pull ups in my sets recently and rightly so. Straight outta H-Town and somewhere between the grotty whispers of Ying Yang Twins and the jerking good times of New Boyz, the track is pure dutty dancefloor GOLD. Never mind that bumble bees are always blokes, I’m not gonna rain on the Papas parade by splitting hairs, especially when he’s got such a nuts arsenal of bass to smash my ears with.

Yak Films

Yak Films are a diverse group of photographers and filmmakers who’ve set out to document youth global dance movements “which provide a voice for resistance and an alternative to played-out mainstream media.” With over a hundred videos of the best urban dance crews on the planet, their work stretches from New Orleans to Tokyo and beyond.

After living in Japan for about a half year, I’ve become amazed by the dance styles of Tokyo-based Joy and Hammer, AKA the New Jack Swing Brotherz, and Yak has captured some choreography by them that’s reminiscent of Kid N Play, Do The Right Thing, and those Boss Coffee ads in Japan featuring Tommy Lee Jones as an alien. Calling it “thoroughly awesome” would still be some kind of an understatement.

The original is fantastic but I have become obsessed with the Mosca remix of T. Williams’ ‘Heartbeat’. I love the dichotomy between hard beats and soft vocals, I could talk about bassline refixes of US R&B singers for days. In this case, it’s Roc-A-Fella’s Terri Walker, whose voice hugs the deep rolling bass of Mosca’s remix. The tune is what i would imagine if Nina Simone teamed up with today’s broken beat producers. The record is out now.

Lil Scrappy Look At Me

Atlanta-based rapper Lil Scrappy was an integral part of the crunk movement from the very beginning, appearing on seminal hits such as No Problem, Knuck If You Buck, Neva Eva, Gangsta Gangsta and Money In The Bank. On his new Dre Skull-produced single, Look At Me, Scrappy is back with a hard, existential club banger that’s sure to induce scrunch-face. To top it off, we got Pen and Pixel for the cover art.

Out now on iTunes, Juno and other fine digital retailers. Super limited edition vinyl coming soon. You already know about the t-shirt.

Please consider supporting this project. Respect!
