The Rap Almanac

Ever wondered who used the word ‘beef’ first? Or which American city’s rappers use the most polysyllabic words (who hasn’t wondered that?). Well, Tahir Hemphill is going to start charting all the answers in his swish project ‘The Hip Hop Word Count: A Searchable Rap Almanac’:

The Hip-Hop Word Count (HHWC) is a searchable ethnographic database built from the lyrics of over 40,000 Hip-Hop songs from 1979 to present day.

Head here for full details. Can’t wait for the dancehall almanac.

Late contender for song of the year?! The beat is on some 60’s fuzzbox guitar ish while both Ghost and Black Thought teach us that wrapping up is important if you’re visiting the park this time of year (I think).

Taken from Ghostface’s eagerly anticipated (when are Ghost LP’s not eagerly anticipated?) new LP Apollo Kids.

Ghostface Killah feat. Black Thought – In Tha Park

The Leytonstone based Murkle Man, better known as Jammer, released his first official album Jahmani last Summer as an successor to his quartet of mixtapes called the ‘Are You Dumb Volumes’.

The fact that he’s got remarkable producers and featured guests on his album doesn’t come as a surprise as many people would be honored to work with Jammer,  still it was good to see Toddla T’s name appear on the album production credits for the two tracks ‘Party Animal‘ and ‘Back To The 90’s’.

Back in July, Jammer and Toddla did a fun performance for the latter on the Guardian website which you can watch here and today the official video finally hit the internet. A fun party video to go with a great party tune: hopefully this track will stick around for a bit since it’s always good to have summery and nostalgic tunes around during the winter times.

Santa In The Ghetto

Yellowman once declared that Santa never went to the ghetto, but it’s about 10 years on and things have changed. Now he goes STRAIGHT there, according to Snoop Dogg and the Death Row fam. (Of course he does, it’s full of hot ladies wearing skimpy elf outfits and Moet under tha tree). Hos, hos, hos, merry Christmas!!
