Vybz Kartel LP on Mixpak

We’re more than excited to announce a new Dre Skull produced Vybz Kartel album for release in spring 2011! Here’s a little video of the ‘dancehall hero’ himself telling you how good it’s going to be (with back-up from producer Not Nice and a sneak preview of one of the tracks in the background).

Vybz is very rarely interviewed, but Marvin Sparks at MTV UK has just put out this brilliant two parter (read part one here and part two here) where Kartel talks about writing lyrics, borrowing from Ne-Yo, collaborating with Mavado and, of course, some words on the Mixpak album:

MTV: Can we expect a follow-up album to ‘Pon Di Gaza 2.0’?

Vybz Kartel: Yeah, we’ve got a record that we’re working on for next year with Dre Skull from Mixpak records. He’s this white kid from New York that builds some sick beats. So next year me and him – Adidjaheim records/Mixpak records – it’s going to be for April. We haven’t even started the promotion for the album yet. It’s going to be like 14 exclusive tracks.

Yep, 14 exclusive tracks! More info coming soon!

Brodinski’s latest curated project, “The Best of Everything, Volume 2” is exactly that – a compilation that throws underground dance music allstars against the best r&b and hip hop of the last two decades. There are myriad highlights (Renaissance Man remixing Lil Wayne?! I almost died), but one of the standout tracks is the grimey Bok Bok redux of Lil Scrappy’s recent Mixpak single.

Bok Bok turns Lil Scrappy’s “grown ass man rapping” into a cough syrup injected drawl where you can almost hear Scrappy’s gold teeth clacking together nervously in between lines, ready to run off somewhere.

Be sure to grab the whole release, as Bok Bok, Brenmar, Dubbel Dutch, French Fries, J-Wow, Nguzunguzu, Renaissance Man Wildlife! and more throw down spectacular versions of your favorite hip hop guilty pleasures.

Yes, Warrior One made a track recorded with the yelps of multicolor poodles. And yes, it’s fantastic and addictive and catchy as all hell, so much so that you’ll forget it’s actually an ad for a Nokia phone or someting.

How can some of the year’s biggest tunes just keep slipping in right at the end? Federation’s Max Glazer has put his magic touch to Rihanna’s ‘What’s My Name’, adding a knocking dancehall beat and some sweet patois Vybz to Ri-Ri’s sweet na-nahing…

Your name honeybunch, heartbeat, love bunny, sweety pie, darling, putus, mi sugar dumpling…

Drake, move out the way!

[There is another Vybz/Rihanna remix on the same song that rehashes Vybz’ vocal from ‘Beat Up Di’, but it’s all about Federation’s version]
