This is a taste of some of the interesting music coming out of Chicago right now. “Grooverider Free” is off Mahjongg’s very good third record The Long Shadow Of The Paper Tiger. Their sound is hard to pin down and can wax from dissonant-disco towards hyper mobile break-beats or Kraftwerk-like arpeggiator tunnels and then back to something groovy and melodic.
Mixpak is excited to announce our latest signing, Andy Petr, who will debut his first official release with the ‘Rapper Turned Singer EP’ in May. The prolific Milwaukee-based 19-year old producer also plans to deliver an onslaught of free EPs that include original material as well as the heavy reworkings of some of his favorite rap songs. The first free EP is entitled APD004 and you can download it here.
Well beyond his years, Andy Petr affirms his knowledge of electronic music, interlacing bits and pieces of IDM, Chicago house, Acid house, Juke, hip hop and more. Far from the core London, Paris, and New York electronic scenes, Petr cranks out track after track, exploring intricacies of production and ultimately finding a sound all his own.
Listen to a highlight from the his free, ADP004 EP:

Man of the dancehall moment, Mavado, teams up with Shaggy for the brand new official video for their gallis tune ‘Girls Dem Love We’. Watch out for a cameo from Chipmunk, and Shaggy promising that in the middle of the night he will ‘Oh Carolina’…doesn’t every girl want to wake up to that?

The Heatwave deliver yet another brilliantly hyperactive mix, appropriately titled ‘Energy Bashment’, bouncing from UK to JA, from the nineties to now, soca to funky via the latest and greatest dancehall riddims. It’s 60 minutes, 49 songs, a whole heap of exclusive refixes and one big Mixpak release. ENERGY.
