Rinse FM and Hyperdub’s Funkystepz have been cracking out yet more funky bashment remixes to tear down the dance. After the killer remix of Rihanna’s Rude Boy last year, now comes a new run of Vybz Kartel refixes and an excellent rework of one of last year’s biggest riddims: Jim Screechie. Their ‘Tek Buddy’ refix (someone could make a compilation of these by now) has a similar intro to the Pepper Riddim, but then drops into a straight up military funky beat. Get ready to do the the funky air piano! Be sure to watch out for them on the Boiler Room’s Hyperdub takeover next week.

This week’s release from Subeena’s OPIT Records comes from London’s Circle Traps (aka Will Ward along with Jack and Duncan from Portico Quartet). The four-track EP builds on their instrumental prowess, weaving sax, drums, bass, flute, guitar and keys into samplers, and floating across genres and influences as far flung as jungle and jazz. Be sure to check the beautiful 2-step of ‘Fjord’ and Subeena’s housey remix of ‘Bo Symbol’. Steve Reich eat your heart out. Get it here.
