This is a cut from Young L’s sophomore mixtape DOMO-KUN. Young L hit the scene a few years ago with The Pack, a post-hyphy rap crew who got some serious attention for their anthemic, hip-hop skateboard track “Vans.” The group is still around today but less active, leaving Young L some time to explore the parameters of the polarizing and momentously weird “BASED” rap style. On “Loud Pockets,” Young L mixes huge 8-bit bass sound with a slacker flow, making a track simultaneously heavy and stark, laid-back but grindingly aggressive. Definitely bashy. Throw it on in your “cinnamon limousine,” and shake your dreads out of that fitted!
Our new kid on the block Andy Petr drops his first EP with Mixpak, Rapper Turned Singer next week. He’s neither a rapper nor a singer, but he makes a fine jacking house beat, and we’ve decided to let you jack for free by giving away the title track from the release. Rapper Turned Singer will be out in full on May 10th, watch this space (and Andy’s twitter!).
A roundup of this week’s choice twitter posts from Mixpak artists, remixers and extended family.

DaVinci brings an energetic, versatile flow to this heavy beat by SMKA. The lyrics slide along at a quick pace, switching up every few bars in way that should hit the floor nicely. That’s combined with a variety of drums, some hard bass, and these X-Files style G-Funk synths. Throw the hook in and you got a track that could make some money, but is surprisingly free. It’s part of a mixtape called The 808 Experiment: Vol 3, in which the ATL producers get on the collabo tip with rappers from all over the country. There’s a lot of notable names on there like Freddie Gibbs, Skewby, and Young Scolla, so cop that for more. Check SWTBRDS for more Davinci.
“Kong Riddim” is some tuff, bashy UK Funky from Bristol’s Actraiser. It’s haunted vibes, deep basslines, and irresistible beat would make even Donkey Kong loosen his tie. The artist produces a bunch of different styles, from house and techno to dubstep and funky, and even has a funk side project. This track is unreleased at the moment, but he also just flipped “Cartridge Chaos VIP“, a housier 130 joint that he’s giving out for free. (Artwork by Andrio Abero.)
