Jamaican supergroup Ward 21 have announced they are making a new album, which to anyone on the dancehall circuit with a taste for forward-thinking, genre-smashing productions is Christmas come early. As a sneak peak, Kunley has been uploading some tracks onto his soundcloud, like ‘Bubble Song’, a minimal, bass-heavy dancehall track with hints of ‘Jafrican Ting’ and TOK’s ‘Bubble’. It’s another song to add to the list of big tunes named after bubbles. Watch their soundcloud for new uploads and news of their album.

Funkystepz – Trouble EP

Funkystepz are set to release their next EP on Hyperdub, Trouble, on the 3rd of October, delivering three big-hitting funky tracks, ‘Trouble’, ‘Dirty Dutch’ and ‘John Wayne’ (which is completely built around a vocal sample saying ‘I’m John Wayne’, and brings all the JW swagger with it). Aaliyah (RIP) 10-Year Tribute Mix – By Rob Pursey by Southern Hospitality on Mixcloud

Today marks a decade since Aaliyah’s untimely death, and Rob Pursey of Southern Hospitality put together this tribute mix. In his words:

This quick live mix I did is just my dedication to one of the artists who burned brighter than most in her short career and helped create the blueprint for so much of the music I love right now. By no means is it a complete collection of the amazing body of work she amassed in her career, but instead is a mix of some classics, special 12″ remixes, non-album cuts and a few personal favourites.

One thing I always thought, and was reminded of whilst jammin this together, was how other-worldy Aaliyah’s vocals always sounded. They sound even more so now. R.I.P. Baby Girl.
