Portland based electro duo Glass Candy has just released a pair of singles, “Warm in the Winter” and “Beautiful Object” on Italians Do It Better. The two tracks combine driving drum-machine percussion, house piano jabs and cool bass synths with sweet, New Romantic style vocals. Glass Candy sounds a little like Yazoo if Yazoo had started making music today instead of in the early 80’s. You can grab the tracks here.
This one is the first of three parts from the BBC’s 70s arts program, Aquarius, focussing on the newly-emerging reggae sound in London. There’s footage of Delroy Washington, Notting Hill Carnival, record stores and the ‘travelling discotheques’ aka soundsystems.
Grime producer Darq E Freaker got a well deserved 30 minute mix in on 1Xtra last week, showcasing 17 of his forward thinking tracks alongside the only song not by him on the mix, Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’. High energy all round.
