Teacha’s Pet – Episode 1

After months of hyping and waiting, Vybz Kartel’s new TV show, Teacha’s Pet, has finally landed. The show sees 20 girls from around the world vying for Addi’s attention, much like a dancehall Flavor of Love. If you like Vybz, or drama, or both, this is for you (you also get to see Popcaan playing the part of ‘The Prefect’). There’ll be a new episode every week for the next 12, check them out here at the Teacha’s Pet site.

Mixpak fam Schlachthofbronx have just released their latest EP for Man Recordings, Carimbo, a 4-track offering once again showing us their bass-driven, versatile style: delving into Nola Bounce and the Brazilian ‘Carimbo’. Their collab with Gnucci Banana, ‘Coolie Fruit’, not only has this karaoke-friendly video, but it’s also up for the free download here. Get the whole EP at the usual outlets and preview the 4 tracks at their soundcloud.

Last spring French producer Koyote dropped “Midsummer Tales”, the first installment in an ambitious trilogy of original EP’s for Mixpak. Now with the dawning of fall comes a batch of remixes, handpicked by Koyote himself. The “Midsummer Tales” EP is a striking collection of pychedelic body music steeped in techno tradition but focused on looking forward, its remixes are no different. This will be out next week, but enjoy the stream.

The year is 2011 and the vibe on dance floors across the world is that anything goes. Sounds are being chopped up and spliced together as the traditional DJ rulebook sinks beneath the weight of a new, highly eclectic philosophy. Mixpak epitomises this perfectly. Its back catalogue is brimming with electro, dutch house, UK funky, ghetto tech, hip hop and dancehall and provides ammunition for strobe lit big rooms and sweat drenched basements alike.

Mixmag has started a new weekly Scene Selection feature and they’ve chosen Mixpak for the debut. Check out their coverage of us which features an exclusive interview with label boss Dre Skull on what makes Mixpak unique and then check his ‘Mixpak For Mixmag’ mix featuring 100% Mixpak music, including exclusive new music from some of our upcoming releases.

New Dam Funk EP

For more check out Funk’s Soundcloud or if you’re looking for a throwback to fill out that funk collection, Aurra’s “You and Me Tonight” is a good place to start. And, if you missed it, Dam-Funk did a super-smooth mix of Mixpak’s own Lil Scrappy’s “Look At Me” that’s very worth the listen (or re-listen).
