Wildlife! Juno Chart

Wildlife! has just compiled a chart of his favourite recent tracks for Juno, including Ital Tek, Whole Sick, Shackleton and 3 Mixpak artists. Head here to see his recommendations.

With carnival fast approaching, it’s high time for Mixpak to release another forward thinking power soca record. “Soca Road”, the new EP from Montreal’s Poirier, is set to drop on January 17th, right before the Caribbean’s biggest street party.

The EP finds its unity in Soca’s high tempos and its diversity in its numerous influences and styles. Thatʼs par for the course for both Mixpak and the veteran producer, who has a slew of genre-defying releases and worldwide collaborations already under his belt.

The opening track, “Who Got Di Riddim” (give it a listen and we think youʼll know the answer) is a playful and melodic piece of soca that breaks down just to explode again, while “Work That” is an inventive rhythmic workout propelled by complex island drums that border on techno brutality. Collaborating with Cape Town’s EJ von Lyrik, “Bring It On” mixes the anthemic with the frenetic, while the closing track “Sak Te Gen Tan La” features Haitian vocalist Imposs and a peak time carnival vibe.

Before the record drops in full next week, listen to the previews right here:

Murlo: Bombcast

Mixpak affiliate Murlo (watch for his Mixpak track coming soon) has just dropped a bomb of a mixtape for Amsterdam’s Bomb Diggy. As customary for Murlo, it’s full of his own unreleased productions, brand new soca and caribbean-tinged bass music:

Daniel David Freeman, the man behind the artwork for both Melé’s Mixpak EPs – Bombay and Starlight – will be launching a new London exhibition this week, ‘Azalea’s Amazons’:

Beach London is proud to present a solo show from London based artist Daniel David Freeman. This show explores the life of fictional character, Rick Azalea. ‘Azalea’s Amazons’ is an exploration of the character’s inner most fantasies. Using the humble mediums of felt tip pen and paper, the artists invites the viewer to engage with a range of abstract and extraordinary characters who live only in the realm of Azalea’s imagination.

Opening 12th January for private view and showing until 1st February at Beach London. Check DDF’s site for more.
