Trilla – Etap Riddim 2011

Some men bond over sports, others women and then there are the odd ones who bond over a little seen YouTube video of 3 midlands girls doing a fan video of Trilla‘s Etap riddim. That was two years ago when I had an in depth conversation with a University Professor about that video (which has since been taken off YouTube).

With the original not really reaching further out than the bassline scene (though it really deserved to), Trilla has returned with a version that is more akin to dubstep. He’s even brought along Boy Better Know’s Frisco for this 2011 version.

Sadly it’s a radio rip at the moment so allow the Logan Sama voiceover.

RYEot PowRR Mixtape

Baltimore’s finest young MC, Rye Rye, is back on the scene with this brand new mixtape produced by DJ Sega: RYEot PowRR. Ignore the Miley Cyrus version, skip to the B-more bangers!

Get it here.

It took something special to get me out of the loop of trying to find what Neptunes songs sounded similar to Ward 21’s Brain Freeze riddim (we concluded that it may be a slowed down version of Noreaga’s Superthug).

So when I heard Checan‘s Robocop i couldn’t help but bust a sly bassline skank rather than the bottle popping dance trance I was stuck in by listening to early aughts neptunes for 2 days. Slightly funky, slightly bassline and slightly menacing aka all the things I love in a tune.

Hard Nips On Japanese TV

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2flmgHQL3pc

Hard Nips have just had their song ‘Sunshine Overload’ (an exclusive version of a track off their latest Mixpak EP), featured on a Japanese ad! Apparently the main guy in the commercial is Japan’s ‘Tom Cruise’, and in case you don’t speak Japanese, it’s an advert for mayonnaise. Props to the people who made the ad for a) making the classiest ad for mayonnaise you’ll probably ever see and b) for knowing which band to turn to when it’s time to sell mayonnaise. Hard Nips for the win!
