ATL trio Travis Porter blew up the hip-hop radio dial last winter with their booming, ass-shaking jam, “Make It Rain.” Since then they’ve done collaborations with Tyga of Young Money and Big Sean of G.O.O.D. Music. Keep your eyes on these kids, they’re killing it right now with their bass heavy Southern sound.

Top Go Go Tracks

Our first single with Vybz Kartel from his forthcoming album, Kingston Story, dropping later this month, was of course ‘Go Go Wine’, a tale of love between a JA MC and a go go dancer. But Vybz and Inspector Gadget definitely weren’t the only people to use the Go Go as a staple; we delved into our collections and found a few more dancehall Go Go anthems from across the ages to get you go-going.

1. Captain Barkey – Go Go Wine (1996)

This one on the massive Stink riddim on Stone Love.

2. Go Go Riddim – Massive B (2008)

This one a whole riddim, evidently inspired by the huge Showtime riddim, but with a new flex from the Bobby Konders camp, Massive B.

3. Go Go Club – Vybz Kartel (2009)

Vybz’ first foray into the go go club came on the Go Go Club riddim produced by Russian. Vybz’ cut is huge, but watch for ‘Bill’ by Lisa Hype & Gaza Kim and Ryno’s ‘Bike Back’ for the up-and-coming big voices.

4. Go Go Club – Delly Ranks
(Listen here)
This one over the Toppatop riddim, which is seemingly impossible to find anywhere, but is a dancehall take on Destiny’s Child’s ‘Jumpin’ Jumpin”.

5. Go Go Macarena – Captain Barkey

Seems Captain Barkey has a taste for the go go dance, so much so he decided to mash it up with another, erm, popular dance: the macarena. Warning: high novelty value.

Watch out for the ‘Go Go Wine’ video dropping soon!

On the 15th of June, London will witness something that hasn’t happened for a long time. A live stage show featuring some of the biggest MC’s all sharing the stage and passing the mic over dancehall riddims From Wiley (who seems determined to attend all his live shows this year), General Levy, Glamma Kid, Skibadee, Asher Senator, Lady Chann, Riko Dan, Stush, Mr Williamz, Lady Leshurr, YT, Stylo G, Serocee and Rubi Dan. I personally can’t wait to see Lady Leshurr as she really is one of the best right now in the UK.

You can grab tickets here and go download Riko Dan’s ‘Mind How You Talk’ right here to get warmed up.

This is a clip from Christian Marclay’s appearance on Night Music in 1989. They call him a turntablist, but don’t be expecting any DMC business, it’s more like he’s using 6 decks to communicate with aliens.
