Spectr – Dance 4 Me

The latest release to come from Roska’s rising underground label, Kicks and Snares, comes courtesy of Hotflush head man, Spectr (aka, Scuba). The 2 track release features bass heavy, ‘Dance 4 Me’, which is already being deemed a ‘future classic’, along with ‘I Know’, an incredibly catchy track, with vocals that’ll stick in your head for days! This video has an aggressively surreal style similar to Major Lazer’sPon De Floor” break out of a few years ago. “Que Que” can be found on Dave Nada’s new Blow Your Head Vol. 2 Moombahton Compilation out now on Mad Decent.

“Kartel has remixed the notion of what it means to be a dancehall star,” said the Jamaican novelist and essayist Colin Channer. “He’s a pop artist in the sense of somebody like Madonna or Lady Gaga, who are aware of how transforming their image makes them attractive to different segments of the public.”

Today’s Arts & Leisure section of the New York Times has a feature on Vybz Kartel covering his unique position in dancehall, his new album on Mixpak and the growth of the Vybz Kartel brand. Grab a copy from your newsstand or read the story online.
