There are an incredible 35 tracks on this new compilation, Invasion of the Mysteron Killer Sounds, a collaboration between The Bug aka Kevin Martin and Soul Jazz Records‘ Stuart Baker, set for release on the 16th of June. The main tenet of the collection simply seems to be genre-busting, bass-heavy innovative riddims, be they from Jamaica, the UK or beyond, past, present and almost always futurist. The four LP collection is kinda like a spider diagram of how digital dancehall and dub affected some of today’s producers, showing both the subtle and the obvious links in between King Jammy and Diplo, Prince Jazzbo and Matt Shadetek. In case that wasn’t geeky and amazing enough already, there’s also a graphic novel that comes with it, which they describe as ‘a science-fiction vision of the future of digital music, featuring King Tubby, Steely and Clevie, Jammy, Jazzbo, complete with Alien Sound Lord Abductors, Aural Freedom Fighters and Digi-Dub Voyagers!’ Nuts.
